NEWS FROM SEPTEMBER 2025
September was a lovely month weatherwise. Sunny and warm but not the intense heat of July and August. There were also some big cloud bursts which provided much needed rain for those of us with gardens. Lovely to see a number of our “Swallows” back – always good to catch up.
Wilma and Leo Damen. Sadly in September we said goodbye to Wilma and Leo from The Netherlands who have spent 4 or 5 months every year with us for the past fifteen years. Regrettably they felt it was time to sell their apartment in preparation for a new season. It was a very emotional Sunday as we said goodbye to two dear friends but we hope that they will come back to visit us from time to time.
September Tapas Afternoon – a warm afternoon was spent at Johnny and Jan Wright’s home enjoying the company of good friends (old and new) together with wine and what seemed like vast quantities of food!
Wedding Blessing – In September there was another wedding blessing in church. This time it was Penelope and Joseph from Alberta in Canada.
Harvest Thanksgiving. The Eucharist for Harvest Thanksgiving was celebrated at Santa Margarita on Sunday 28 September. The service this year led us to look beyond the needs of humankind alone. As always the church was beautifully decorated. Sincere thanks to those who give their time and talents.
OCTOBER AND FUTURE EVENTS 2025
October Harvest Celebration Lunch – Thursday 9 October 2pm. Harvest will be celebrated at our October lunch at the cricket club under the trees, as we did last year. There will be seafood or vegetarian paella + nibbles, salad, and pudding 20€ p.head. You must make your choice of paella in advance. Drinks available from the bar. . If you have not yet signed up please do so by Sunday 5 October as the paellas must be ordered two or three days ahead. Or let me or Paul know you are coming.
Roqueta. Monthly articles from Roqueta, Menorca’s English language magazine, are posted on the church web site every month. You can find a reflection upon “Imperfect September” at https://anglicanchurchmenorca.net/roqueta-article-imperfect.
Peru. The Rev. Deborah Chapman, the Archdeaconry link for Peru, has been in Peru working with Jean Samaniego and the committee that deals with student grants at the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd. We will have more information available for the November newsletter including photos and reports on each of the students. The photo shows Deborah with one of the students whom we helped last year to finish secondary school. She says that “he is a brilliant musician - probably the best in the Anglican Diocese of Peru.” !
GENERAL
Afternoon worship at Cala’n Bosc. The monthly services of Holy Communion at Cala’n Bosc have been moved to the penultimate Sunday of each month for the rest of 2025. The next service will be on Sunday 19 October. Those in the Ciutadella area can join us at 17.00
Mission Giving for 2025. The Church Council has agreed that the main beneficiaries of our giving this year will be support for Peruvian students and also food vouchers to the needy on the island (via the Red Cross).
Coffee after Sunday services. Thank you to the volunteers who have joined the group serving refreshments after the service. Further volunteers are welcome as we are try to broaden the group. Talk to Paul. The small donations of 1.50€ per cup of coffee each week are used to support a number of different aspects of chaplaincy life from aiding the needy with food, to the floral decorations in the church.
If anyone is willing to host a future social event – coffee morning, afternoon tea, or simple tapas that would be much appreciated. Please let Carole know.
