NEWS FROM SEPTEMBER 2024
September – Tapas Afternoon.
Many thanks to Johnny and Jan Wright who hosted a very enjoyable afternoon at their home in Binisafua Roters.
Leo & Wilma
Our Dutch friends. Leo and Wilma returned to The Netherlands in September after their summer stay. We shall miss them but look forward to seeing them again next spring.
Golf Tournament.
Our Annual Golf Tournament took place last week in conjunction with Menorca Cricket Club. Many thanks to all our many sponsors including Kate Strudwick, our Environmental Officer! Also very many thanks to Dan Osterbury (Menorca Cricket Club), Colin Guanaria, Malcolm Ellis and Paola at the Golf Club for their organisation; to all those who donated prizes; and not least to those who took part – over 30 of them. It was a splendid day and we will let you know the total amount raised in the November issue of this Newsletter.
OCTOBER AND FUTURE EVENTS 2024
Sunday 6 October – Paul will be in Palma, Majorca presiding at their Harvest Thanksgiving service. David Waller, our Archdeacon, will be joining us to preside at our 11am Sunday service.
Harvest Service – 20 October .
11am in the church.
Harvest Lunch – Wednesday 30 October 1.30pm.
This will be held at Menorca Cricket Club under the trees (in the likelihood of inclement weather a change of venue will be made). Paella lunch 20€ p. head – fish/shellfish or vegetable + salad and a cheesecake dessert. Drinks to purchase from the bar. Orders for food must be made by Friday 25 October. Do let Carole or Paul know if you plan to be there or put your name on the sign up sheet on the church notice board.
Organ.
Not only did Melanie Plumley liven the music for our worship whilst she was with us over the summer, but she noticed that something did not sound quite right with the organ (see picture below), and has subsequently replaced three speakers in total, whose rubber mountings had perished over time. A donation towards the cost of the replacements was also made.
GENERAL
Mission Giving to Peru. Following our support for two students last year, we are seeking to identify additional students to support in the current year. However, we may also give further funds to one of the previously supported students.
Coffee after Sunday services. All the coffee and biscuits are donated free to provide this service each week, faithfully served by two members of the fellowship. However we do ask for a small donation of 1.50€ per cup of coffee each week – these donations are used to support the Food Bank and also invested in other areas (e.g. the new family area in the church, or flowers).
Digital Card Reader. An update on the new Digital Card Reader shortly!
Chaplaincy Council. The next meeting of the council will be on 28 November 2024.
Members of the Chaplaincy Council for this year are David Green, Church Warden, and Liz Astley, Carole Brayford, Colin Guanaria, Suzanne Hodges (treasurer), Heike Pieper, and Margaret and Trevor (the two Archdeaconry Synod representatives.
Heike has spent most of the summer in Germany with her family but sadly her mother, Melitta Imöhl, died on Thursday last week. We pray that Melitta may rest in peace, and that light perpetual may shine upon her. We pray, too, for comfort and peace for Heike and her family
The weekly services of Holy Communion are recorded. If you are not on island or cannot be in church but would like to follow the service, contact Paul and he will send the link.
