NEWS FROM JUNE 2026
Apologies ! This Newsletter is late (AGAIN!) but brings you news from last month.
14 June - In Paul’s absence, the Service of Holy Communion was celebrated by the Rev. Massimo Radice, curate at Saint George’s, Barcelona. It was good to welcome Massimo and his wife Monica.

Gaudium et Musica – 20 June. An Evening of Medieval and Renaissance Music – an excellent evening which was very much enjoyed by all.
Chaplaincy Lunch. Following our very convivial lunch in May at Trattoria Vianello in Mahon, in June we enjoyed an excellent lunch at the Golf Club in Son Parc. A good meal with good company.

Chaplaincy Council. Colin Guanaria has accepted the invitation to join the Council as the Co-opted Vice Chairman. (Please pray for David Green who is seriously ill ). The June meeting was held on Thurday 4th June. Please pray for the Council Members and the outcome of their deliberations.
Jamie and Katherine Brayford (part of our extended church family!) who visit us regularly with their two small children, were ordained as Deacons in St. Paul’s Cathedral, London, at the end of June. A wonderful and uplifting occasion.

Graham Byfield. Long term resident of the island, artist and delightful friend to many sadly died recently. In June, his ashes were interred in a lovely ceremony – see photo.

Building Works. Following the demolition of the Sacristy (to be rebuilt in due course), building works have commenced on the adjacent site at the rear of the church! In the meantime the portakabin is serving us well !

Shawn the Sheep ! Most of us are familiar with Shawn who often makes an appearance from behind the altar (with the Chaplain’s approval of course!). He is the guardian of lost property. Here he is modelling the latest item waiting to be claimed !

JULY 2026 AND FUTURE EVENTS
19 July - Patronal Feast – Fiesta of Santa Margarita.
On Sunday, 19 July, at 18:00 we will process from the Roman Catholic church of El Roser, with a horse and carriage, as in the past, and then enjoy choral vespers with the choir of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge in the church. There will be pizza and other refreshments shared with the choir afterwards.
Monday 20 July at 20.00. The choir of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge will also be offering a recital in the church of Santa Maria, in Mahón.
Paul is also looking for volunteers to help with the provision of food/drink for breakfast for the choir for 4 mornings (19-22 July) – Physical help not financial donations please ! Help is also required to clean up the hostel after they leave on the Wednesday morning.
Other July Events. Details of forthcoming events will be advertised on the church website in due course.
Coffee after Sunday services. Thank you to the volunteers who have joined the group serving refreshments after the service. Further volunteers are welcome. The small donations of 2.00€ per cup of coffee each week are used to support a number of different aspects of chaplaincy life from aiding the needy with food, to the floral decorations in the church.
