Annual Meeting 2024

Highlights

Members of the chaplaincy of the Anglican Church in Menorca gathered for the annual meeting on 14 April, following the morning worship. The gathering was offered online, via Zoom, although this year there were no remote participants. This is a brief summary of the proceedings; the formal record of the meeting will be contained in the minutes.

Most of the material for the meeting had been circulated to members of the electoral roll beforehand by the chaplaincy secretary, Margaret Jones. The chaplain's annual report is available online, separately.

Following an opening prayer, we spent a few moments recalling those whose lives have ended since the previous meeting: 31 people, each of whom has touched our chaplaincy in some way. The first matter of business, within the Annual Meeting of Parishioners, was the election of churchwarden(s). This year David Green, as the only candidate, was elected to be warden by acclamation, and admitted to the position by the chaplain.

The Annual Parochial Church meeting followed, with reports from the Electoral Roll Officer, the Synod Representatives, the Wardens, Treasurer, Environmental Officer, Acting Safeguarding Officer and Social Activities Coordinator. The report on the Archdeaconry Synod gives a comprehensive overview of both the Synod and the Archdeaconry, and is worth reading (available on request from the Synod Reps, Margaret and Trevor).

Four current lay members of the Chaplaincy Council, Liz Astley, Carole Brayford, Colin Guanaria and Suzanne Hodges (treasurer) have two years of a three year term remaining. Heike Pieper was elected by acclamation to serve for three years.

The meeting received the chaplaincy 'Giving Policy,' prepared by the Chaplaincy Council, as follows:

Santa Margarita is a mission church, reaching out to the local community and wider afield to share the love of Jesus.  The Chaplaincy of Santa Margarita is committed in faith, hope and love to donate 5% of its net income (after paying diocesan and archdeaconry dues) to organisations outside the church.  At the beginning of each financial year, the Chaplaincy Council will select two main organisations, one of which operates within Menorca, and one of which serves beyond the island,(normally charities of some sort) to be recipients of, for example, a portion of the proceeds from fund-raising activities (such as the golf tournament) as the year progresses.  At the end of each year, the Chaplaincy Council will decide, at its discretion, to offer funds to the same or additional recipients to meet the 5% target.  The chaplain and wardens, together with the Chaplaincy council, will have the discretion to disburse additional funds during the year where immediate or urgent need arises.
